Prenatal Paternity Test
Prenatal DNA Testing just £19*
GTL can perform DNA testing during pregnancy, or prenatal paternity testing, using DNA samples taken between 11 and 23 weeks of the pregnancy. DNA samples must be collected by an obstetrician or gynaecologist by carrying out either a Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS) or Amniocentesis procedure. The cost of this procedure is paid directly to the obstetrician or gynaecologist at the time of the appointment and is in addition to GTL’s fee. Please note that private CVS and amniocentesis procedures cost in the region of £450-£500.
In a CVS procedure, cells from the placenta or afterbirth are removed from inside the womb using a needle. The amount of cells removed is extremely small. This is normally performed after the 11th week of the pregnancy.
In an Amniocentesis procedure, a needle is passed into the womb and some fluid removed from around the baby. Ultrasound is used during the procedure so the needle can be guided accurately into the fluid. This is normally performed after about 15½ weeks of pregnancy.

Important Information About Prenatal DNA Testing & Prenatal Paternity Tests
It should be noted that a paternity test whilst pregnant does carry a small risk to the unborn baby. Studies have indicated that the chances for foetal loss are increased by 0.5% for amniocentesis and by 1% for CVS. GTL strongly recommend that you discuss these issues with your doctor.
