Why Are GTL Paternity Tests So Cheap?
Some straightforward answers about our affordable paternity test:
Why are GTL DNA paternity tests much cheaper than most other labs?
Several years ago customers expected to pay £500 or more for home paternity testing. People were willing to pay and prices stayed high. In recent years, far more people have discovered that DNA testing can help resolve issues about family relationships and the number of DNA tests we have carried out has increased. As with any type of business, bigger volume means lower prices and we pass the cost savings on to our customers.
We at GTL believe that, once you have collected DNA samples for testing, you should be able to pay for your DNA test when you are ready. This is why we offer you the opportunity to purchase a DNA testing kit or home paternity test kit now for the low price of £19 and pay the laboratory processing fee at a later date when you return your DNA samples for analysis and testing.
Please see the appropriate DNA Test page for laboratory processing fees.
Do you “cut corners” to be able to offer paternity tests at these prices?
Absolutely not. All DNA testing is carried out at our own laboratory which is one of only around 40 accredited DNA labs in the world. To comply with accreditation guidelines, all DNA analysis is performed in exactly the same way, whether it is for peace of mind informational use or for legal purposes. We test 16 genetic markers: the highest standard set of genetic markers in the DNA paternity testing industry and our paternity tests exceed the guidelines for human genetic identity testing. Please visit our DNA Tests and Technology Explained page for more information.
But isn’t it very expensive to analyse DNA?
We use state-of-the-art, highly automated robotic equipment which provides exceptionally accurate and reproducible results. As a result, we are able to carry out a greater number of DNA tests at a lower cost per individual test. We have also worked very hard to automate all transfer of data between this equipment and computers which not only reduces labour costs but also significantly reduces the possibility of human error.
Is it good that you do all your DNA testing at your own laboratory?
Many companies offering DNA tests online are not DNA laboratories and will send your samples to another lab for the actual extraction and testing of DNA. The laboratory they use may well be accredited but you can be certain that it was the lowest bidder. When you call the DNA company for a progress report on your DNA test you may find that they don’t know anything other than when it was sent for testing. Because we conduct our own DNA testing, we can provide up-to-date status reports and you can even get status updates and DNA test results via the internet using our Status Report and Result Pickup page.
